| The Henry County Schools System’s
reputation for excellence is attracting record numbers of students,
with enrollment climbing at a 10 percent annual rate. The amazing
growth is a true testimony to the quality of education offered to
children in Henry County and to the school system’s solid community
support. With funding from a voter-approved one-cent sales tax, the
school system is in the midst of a building program. Two new
elementary schools opened in August 1999, followed by two new middle
schools and a new high school in August 2000 and a third new
elementary school opened the following year.

As new schools are being built, the
focus of the school system remains on academic achievement.
Challenged to meet high expectations, students are responding with
success. Henry County’s 11th grade students scored better than most
of their counterparts in metro Atlanta and above state and national
averages on standardized tests. The schools system received
statewide recognition when Eagle’s Landing Middle School was named a
1999 Georgia School of Excellence. The school now joins Locust Grove
Elementary, Henry County High School and Eagle’s Landing High School
in having received this distinguished recognition.
